July 4, 2010 (Independence Day)

“But that you may know that the Son of Man has authority on earth to forgive sins”- he then said to the paralytic, “Rise pick up your stretcher, and go home.” He rose and went home. When the crowds saw this they were struck with awe and glorified God who had given such authority to human beings. (Matthew 9:6-8)

LITURGY REQUESTS – We ask that if you have dates on which you would like a liturgy offered that you make those requests as early as possible. Request for liturgy dates will be assigned in the order in which they are received. Contact the rectory office to make your requests.
STAYING IN TOUCH – If there is anyone who is regularly unable to attend liturgy but would like to keep in touch with what’s going on in the parish, please contact the rectory office about receiving a copy of the bulletin through the mail.

INDEPENDENCE DAY LITURGY – Father Orest will offer a special liturgy for Our Country, on Monday, July 5th at 9:30 a.m., in honor of the Independence Day Holiday.
FLOWER BED FOR NEW SIGN – Father Orest is looking for Time, Labor and Material donations to add a flower bed below our new parish sign. If you can and would like to help with this project, please contact Father Orest.
DONATIONS NEEDED FOR PARKING LOT – As many are aware our Parish Parking Lot is in need of repair. These repairs will be costly, but are necessary to provide a safe surface for our parishioners and friends to traverse on their way to services and events. Preliminary estimates for the work are around $30,000. Please consider making a special contribution to help defray the costs. Special Collection envelopes are available in the church vestibule.
HELP NEEDED WITH CEMETERY – Father Orest is seeking a volunteer to help manage cemetery matters. Those interested should contact Father to discuss duties and responsibilities.
THANKS – Our thanks to everyone who helped to organize the Religious Education Lesson after the Liturgy for the Holy Day last week. Thanks also to those who coordinated the refreshments served at the social afterwards. May God bless you richly for your efforts.
EWTN BROADCAST – UKRAINIAN CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY: A Light in the East, An in -depth look at the Ukrainian Catholic Church’s effort to cultivate renewal by rebuilding the Ukrainian Catholic University. Airs July 25th at 10 p.m., July 27th at 1 p.m. and July 29th at 5 a.m.
CEMETERY RULES & REGULATIONS – Out of respect for all parish families and their deceased members, these rules and regulations were designed for the uniform appearance, ease of maintenance, safety, and cleanliness of our cemetery. Please give your full co-operation. All decorations, including unplanted and artificial flowers, must be removed before March 31 or be subject to removal. Christmas decorations must be removed by January 31. All stone, metal, and other borders around monuments or memorials are prohibited. Only low borders, one inch above ground level, are permitted in front of hillside graves in order to prevent erosion. No shrub or tree planting is allowed. Loose stone and / or gravel are prohibited on any grave plot. Persons causing any damage to cemetery property will be liable. No dumping on the cemetery grounds or beyond the perimeter. No walking pets through the cemetery. No trespassing on cemetery property after hours. Cemetery hours are 7:00 AM to sundown. These Rules Effective Immediately.

ST. MICHAEL’S HAZLETON – Saint Michael Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church will be celebrating its 100th Year Centennial Anniversary with a Pontifical Divine Liturgy on Sunday, October 31, 2010. A celebratory banquet will be held immediately following the Divine Liturgy at Carmen’s Country Inn, located in Drums, Pennsylvania. The Saint Michael Centennial Anniversary Committee will be publishing a commemorative anniversary book as part of our celebration. This book will include a history of our parish, its organizations, and the role Saint Michael Parish plays in the community of Hazleton and its environs. SUMMER CAMP – The Office of Evangelization, in conjunction with the Ortynsky Spirituality Center, will be offering a Children’s Summer Church Camp from July 19 through July 23, 2010. The Camp will be held at the Ortynsky Spirituality Center and the Treasury of Faith Museum in Philadelphia, for grades Kindergarten through 8th Grade. All children are welcome and invited. The day will begin at 10:00AM and end at 3:30PM. There will be a Children’s Liturgy on Saturday July 24th at 4:30PM in the Ukrainian Catholic Cathedral to celebrate the ending of the Church Camp week. The theme for the week will be ” Jesus, The Bread of Life”. The children will have faith based classes in the morning & afternoon. There will be music, games, outdoor activities, lunch & snacks served daily, and special seminars on soccer, and special visitors. The cost for the week is $25.00 for Ukrainian Catholic parishioners and $35.00 for non-parishioners. There will be a planning meeting on May 27 at 6:00PM at the Ortynsky Spirituality Center, adjacent to the Cathedral at 830 N Franklin Street Philadelphia. We are going to be in need of volunteers to help with the different grades, clean-up, lunch preparation, play-time/story time with the children, and assisting the instructors. The event coordinators are Archpriest Daniel Troyan, Fr. Myron Myronyuk, and the Missionary Sisters of the Mother of God and seminarians Walter Pasicznyk and Roman Sverdan. RETREAT HOUSE – Interested in getting away from it all and meeting God in the quiet of nature? Information about the St. Clare Retreat House at the Holy Dormition Friary in Sybertsville, PA is available in the vestibule of the church.
SHROUD INFORMATION – While the last day the Shroud of Turin Reproduction will be displayed at the Cathedral will be June 29th, it will be displayed at the Holy Dormition Pilgrimage in Sloatsburg, NY, August 13-15, 2010.
DORMITION PILGRIMAGE BUS TRIP – North Anthracite Council League of Ukrainian Catholics is sponsoring a bus trip to the 56th Annual Holy Dormition Pilgrimage at St. Mary’s Villa, Sloatsburg, New York on Sunday, August 15, 2010. Hosted by the Sisters Servants of Mary Immaculate, there will be a Pontifical Divine Liturgy, Confession, Moleben to Our Blessed Mother, Blessing of Flowers, Healing Service and Veneration of the Replica of the Shroud of Turin.
