SACRAMENT OF PENANCE (CONFESSION) – Before Liturgies or by appointment. Parish members should go to Holy Confession at least once a month on average, or more often if there is a serious or mortal sin. In case of a serious or mortal sin, one may not receive Holy Communion, until they have first gone to Confession and received absolution. For small or ‘daily’ sins, one may receive Holy Communion as often as once a day, provided they have made an examination of conscience, a sincere Act of Contrition and recite the Prayer before Holy Communion, found in the text of the Liturgy.

FATHER TO ATTEND RETREAT – Father Orest will leaving for the Archeparchy’s Annual Clergy Retreat on Monday, September 21st and returning late in the day on Thursday, September 24th. Please note that should you have an emergency situation, and your priest is not available, you should contact the closest Catholic priest available.

MALANKA 2010 PLANNING MEETING – The first meeting to plan the 6th Annual Northeastern Pennsylvania “MALANKA” is set for Monday evening, September 21, 2009 at 7:00pm at Konefal’s Restaurant, 458 Main Street, Edwardsville. The traditional Ukrainian New Year Dinner Dance will be held on Friday evening, January 15, 2010 at St. Vladimir Parish Center, Scranton. BERWICK CENTENNIAL – A cordial invitation is extended to join Saints Cyril and Methodius in Berwick on the occasion of their centennial celebration on Sunday, October 18, 2009, beginning with a divine liturgy concelebrated by his grace Metropolitan Stefan Soroka at 2:00 p.m. at the Church. SLOATSBURG JUBILEES – During the next two years the Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate will be celebrating two milestones in their history. December 8th will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the American Province, under the patronage of the Immaculate Conception and during the coming year 2010, they will celebrate 75 years of ministry in the United States. The celebration of this double jubilee will take place during the weekend of December 11-13, 2009, being highlighted by a special Divine Liturgy of Thanksgiving and a banquet. Adds are being sold for a remembrance book, please pick up a copy of the ad form in the back of the church. In addition the Sisters are embarking on a project to build a shrine to Blessed Josaphata (their foundress) on the grounds of their home in Sloatsburg. The small chapel will be a place of prayer, open year round, where people could come to light candles and pray to Blessed Josaphata for her intercession before God. Memorial Pavers for the walkway leading to the chapel will be sold to help defray the costs of the construction. Forms to sponsor those pavers are also available in the back of the church.
BERWICK CRAFT SALE – SS. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, Warren Street & First Avenue, Berwick will hold their Annual Craft Sale on Saturday, October 31st from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. SPAGHETTI DINNER – Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church, Hanover Section, Nanticoke is sponsoring its Annual Spaghetti Dinner to be held on Sunday, October 4, 2009 in the Church Hall, Bliss and Center Sts., from Noon – 4:00 PM. A TRADITION 78 YEARS IN THE MAKING – Since 1931, the Sisters of the Order of Saint Basil the Great have hosted an annual Pilgrimage that focuses on the healing power of prayer and refreshing one’s spiritual self. This event, held on the Sister’s property in Jenkintown, PA brings together over 1,000 attendees each year. This year the Pilgrimage, Under the Protection of the Mother of God will be held on Saturday, October 3rd from 6 PM to 10 PM and Sunday, October 4th from 10 AM to 5 PM. The theme this year is, “Mother of God, Omophor of Life”, prompting us to see how Mary, the Mother of God, loves us, cares for us, and works to protect each of us and all life.
