SACRAMENT OF PENANCE (CONFESSION) – Before Liturgies or by appointment. Parish members should go to Holy Confession at least once a month on average, or more often if there is a serious or mortal sin. In case of a serious or mortal sin, one may not receive Holy Communion, until they have first gone to Confession and received absolution. For small or ‘daily’ sins, one may receive Holy Communion as often as once a day, provided they have made an examination of conscience, a sincere Act of Contrition and recite the Prayer before Holy Communion, found in the text of the Liturgy.

LITURGY REQUESTS – We ask that if you have dates on which you would like a liturgy offered that you make those requests as early as possible. Request for liturgy dates will be assigned in the order in which they are received. Contact the rectory office to make your requests.
PARISH MEETING – Parish Meeting will change to Bi-Monthly, Starting in November. The meetings will be normally be held on the Fourth Tuesday of every other month. The November meeting will be held on Tuesday, November 17th due to the Thanksgiving Holiday. Our Monthly parish meetings are held to discuss and coordinate cooperatively the work of the parish.
TURKEY-FEST ENVELOPES DISTRIBUTED – Reservation envelopes are being distributed again this weekend for our 10th Annual Turkey-Fest. Please help us out in getting word out about the event. Tell your friends and neighbors and make plans to attend this year’s Turkey–Fest Saturday, November 7, 2009, 2:00-8:00 p.m. Please make returns with the collections. RELIGIOUS EDUCATION – The Cross Valley Religious Education program begins its 2009-2010 school year on Saturday, October 31, at 9:30 AM. We welcome back returning students from last year and look forward to meeting new students this year. Classes are free, and are held on Saturday mornings in the church school building at Saints Peter and Paul Ukrainian Catholic Church, on River Street in Wilkes-Barre, from 9:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Families with school aged children grades one through eight are invited to participate. Graduates of the program are invited to assist with the program’s various social, cultural and religious activities. A schedule is available on our church bulletin board. BERWICK CRAFT SALE – SS. Cyril & Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, Warren Street & First Avenue, Berwick will hold their Annual Craft Sale on Saturday, October 31st from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Come shop for the holidays. Lunch will be available from 11:00 AM with a variety of ethnic foods and baked goods. SILENT AUCTION – The Social Concerns Committee of the Catholic Community of North Wilkes-Barre and Holy Saviur / St. Christopher will sponsor a “Silent Auction” on Sunday, October 18th at Sacred Heart School Gym, 607 North Main Street, Wilkes-Barre. There is no admission fee. Tcket donation is $5.00, which entitles you to 25 tickets to bid on an assortment of new items for adults as well as children. Bidding will be from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM and the drawing will start promptly at 2:00 PM. Door prizes will also be awarded. Homemade food will be sold. The Auction is open to the public.
SLOATSBURG JUBILEES – During the next two years the Sister Servants of Mary Immaculate will be celebrating two milestones in their history. December 8th will mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the American Province, under the patronage of the Immaculate Conception and during the coming year 2010, they will celebrate 75 years of ministry in the United States. The celebration of this double jubilee will take place during the weekend of December 11-13, 2009, being highlighted by a special Divine Liturgy of Thanksgiving and a banquet. Adds are being sold for a remembrance book, please pick up a copy of the ad form in the back of the church. In addition the Sisters are embarking on a project to build a shrine to Blessed Josaphata (their foundress) on the grounds of their home in Sloatsburg. The small chapel will be a place of prayer, open year round, where people could come to light candles and pray to Blessed Josaphata for her intercession before God. Memorial Pavers for the walkway leading to the chapel will be sold to help defray the costs of the construction. Forms to sponsor those pavers are also available in the back of the church.
EASTERN CHURCHES CONFERENCE – The Brotherhood of Orthodox Christian Clergy of Philadelphia announces their 15 Annual Conference. The theme, “Divine Liturgy as Heaven on Earth “ will be presented by His Grace, the Right Reverend Jerome, Bishop of Manhattan, New York. The Conference will be held on Saturday, October 24, 2009 at St. Michael’s Orthodox Church, 4th & Fairmount, Philadelphia, PA. Everyone is welcome. BASILIAN SPIRITUALITY CENTER – The Sisters of St. Basil the Great will present a series of Advent Evenings of Reflection. The topic will be “LIVING WITH GRACE AND DIGNITY IN TODAY’S WORLD AND CIRCUMSTANCES”, Sister Marina Bochnewich, OSBM, Director of the Basilian Spirituality Center will be the presenter. The series includes three sessions, Tuesday, November 17, 2009 – Touching Into Our Inner Wisdom, Tuesday, November 24, 2009 – With this Inner Wisdom Learning Boundaries and Balance, and Tuesday, December 1, 2009 – With Wisdom and Grace Reaching Out to Others.
